Welcome to WODproud

Here's what to expect

1. What is WODproud?
A monthly CrossFit-style workout and social event created to bring the LGBTQ+ fitness community together in a supportive, inclusive space.

2. Who can attend?
It’s open to all genders and experience levels, so come along and give it your best effort.

3. Can non-LGBTQ+ people come?
WODproud was built by and for the LGBTQ+ community to create a fitness space where queer people can meet, train, and build real connections, especially for those who’ve felt uncomfortable or unseen in traditional gyms. CrossFit is for everyone, and respectful allies and friends are welcome to join workouts and socials.

4. Do I need previous CrossFit experience?
We ideally would like you to have 2 months of CrossFit or similar functional fitness experience, but if you feel confident with the movements, feel free to come along—we don’t enforce this strictly.

5. What movements or equipment will be used? Can attendees scale movements? Will beginners get options to modify?
All movements, equipment, standards, and scaling options will be clearly explained during the group briefing. Every workout is fully scalable, and beginners are encouraged to modify—just let the coach know if you have specific needs.

6. What format does the workout take?
We start with a group warm-up, then workouts are done in small, randomly assigned groups to encourage community and new friendships. For large events, we may stagger times to manage space. All workouts are scalable.

7. Do I need to bring gear?
We aim to share the workout a few days beforehand so you know what kit to bring (e.g., jump rope, grips). Most boxes have chalk and jump ropes; anything else like grips, tape, belts, or specific footwear you should bring yourself. Please bring water and wear clothing that lets you move safely. If you want to shower, bring a towel.

8. Are there lockers/changing rooms?
Most Crossfit gyms have limited showers and changing facilities—usually just 1-2 showers and toilets. Some venues have lockers, but you’ll need to bring your own lock. Most people leave belongings on the gym floor in plain sight; CrossFit communities are close-knit, and theft hasn’t been an issue.

9. Where is the event taking place?
Our monthly WODproud event changes location each month. Details are shared at checkout, in email confirmations, on Instagram stories, and in our WhatsApp group. Thrive changes venues every two months—check your event registration for details.

10. What time should I arrive?
Please arrive about 15 minutes early to check in and say hello. We need time to check people in and hand out name badges, so prompt arrival helps everyone.

11. How much does it cost?
Tickets for our main monthly event are £20. We also post three free “Breaking Barriers” spots each month alongside our paid monthly event tickets for those with financial limitations, as we don’t want money to be a barrier. Thrive classes are free and open to LGBTQ+ people.

12. What’s included in my ticket?
Your ticket covers the workout, and proceeds support causes in our community. Food and drinks at socials are separate and paid for by you.

13. What’s the refund or cancellation policy?
Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable due to insurance and liability reasons. We have a waitlist, so contact us if you want to be notified of any openings.

14. Is a waiver required?
Yes, all participants agree to our liability waiver at time of ticket purchase.

15. Can I give my ticket to someone else?
No, tickets are non-transferable.

16. Is there a judges or scoring system? Is it a competition?
WODproud is not a competition—no judges or awards—but there’s always a friendly competitive spirit.

17. Is the event accessible?
Most events are wheelchair friendly, and we offer modifications for different abilities. Contact us ahead of time if you have specific accessibility needs.

18. What social activities follow the workout?
We always arrange socials at nearby pubs or restaurants. Details are shared in newsletters, Instagram, and on event day.

19. Are partners or friends invited to socials or to watch the workout?
Yes, you’re welcome to bring anyone who would enjoy the community.

20. How does WODProud give back?
Proceeds from our workout events have historically supported LGBTQ+ mental health initiatives. Under new management, we’re shaping our approach for 2026 and beyond and would appreciate your feedback.
